ʻAkohekohe

I have been enjoying painting this Hawaii Forest Endemic Bird Series. It is a rewarding and fulfilling artistic endeavor that allows me to express my creativity and contribute to these unique birds' appreciation and awareness.

This painting captures the distinct beauty of the ʻAkohekohe, the crested honeycreeper known for its vibrant colors and distinctive crest.

It is positioned gracefully beside the Ōhiʻa lehua flower, symbolizing its primary diet.

The ʻAkohekohe is one of the largest honeycreepers and is found in high-elevation forests on the island of Maui, where it currently resides.

The ʻAkohekohe faces the harsh reality of being critically endangered, underscoring the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect its delicate existence.
