Diamond Head

Diamond Head is a volcanic cone also known as Le 'ahi (tuna forehead), a name given by the Hawaiians because of its resemblance with the tuna fish. The crater is 1070 meters in diameter and has an elevation of 230 meters; it's a green and beautiful silhouette that makes the Waikiki scenery a must.

In the 19th century, the British sailors gave the name Diamond Head after looking at the sparkling calcite crystals thinking these were diamonds in the crater. The British name remained, and today Diamond Head is one of the best-known landmarks on the southeast coast of O'ahu.
